- Project Development Objective (PDO):
The Project is being implemented across the Nineteen (19) Northern States including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The ACReSAL Project Development Objective (PDO) is aimed to increase the adoption of sustainable landscapes management practices in targeted watersheds in Northern Nigeria and strengthen Nigeria long term framework for integrated climate resilient landscape management.
Our Mission
To address environmental challenges arising from climate change and poor land-use practices in Northern Nigeria
Our Vision
To have strong practices and policies on ecological restoration and climate change resilience community.
The Kaduna Agro Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) Project is an off-shoot of the Nigerian Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP). NEWMAP transited to ACReSAL Project following its completion on the 30th June 2022. The Kaduna ACReSAL Project commenced implementation in July 2022.
The ACReSAL Project is a multi-sectoral and multi-institutional convergence of Ministries of Environment, Agriculture and Water Resources. It was designed by the Federal Government and participating States to combat desertification, restore degraded lands, and provide access to water in dryland communities.
ACReSAL Project Core Components:
Dryland Management (Environment Component)
Community Climate Resilience
Institutional Integration and Watershed Management
Contingent Emergency Response Component
Micro-Watershed Identification for Kaduna ACReSAL
Kaduna ACReSAL utilizes micro-watershed identification to pinpoint critical land management areas. This approach enables us to target interventions for improved water security, reduced erosion, and enhanced agricultural productivity in response to climate challenges.
Catchment Watershed Management in Kaduna
Kaduna ACReSAL tackles environmental challenges through a catchment-based approach to watershed management. This means we focus on managing water resources, ensuring sustainable land use practices and improved climate resilience for Kaduna's communities.
Local Project Management Committees
The Kaduna ACReSAL project empowers you, the Local Project Management Committees, to be active participants in delivering food security, environmental sustainability, and climate resilience in your communities. Together, we can build a greener, more secure future for Kaduna.
Implementation Plan Preparation for Kaduna ACReSAL Projects
Kaduna ACReSAL is committed to supporting the successful execution of environmental projects. We offer guidance and resources to help develop clear and comprehensive implementation plans that ensure our initiatives achieve the desired results.
TORs Approval and Clearance In Kaduna ACReSAL
The Kaduna ACReSAL project adheres to a rigorous approval process for Terms of Reference (TORs) to ensure project activities align with our mission and the World Bank's NGACBP strategic directions. This ensures transparency, efficiency, and impactful project delivery.
Approved Procurement Plan
The project's Approved Procurement Plan, aligned with the World Bank's NGACBP, outlines transparent procedures for acquiring goods, works, and services required to achieve our climate and environmental goals. This ensures efficient use of project funds while delivering vital resources for Kaduna's sustainable development.
6+ Years Project Durations
The Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project is a six-year World Bank–assisted initiative designed to restore degraded lands, enhance agricultural productivity, and strengthen climate resilience across Northern Nigeria.
In Kaduna State, the project’s long-term approach ensures that interventions are sustainable and impactful, addressing both immediate environmental challenges and future climate risks. Over the six-year duration, ACReSAL focuses on:
🌱 Restoring Landscapes: Combating desertification and rehabilitating degraded ecosystems for improved soil and water health.
🚜 Empowering Communities: Providing continuous training and capacity-building programs that promote climate-smart agriculture and sustainable livelihoods.
💧 Sustainable Water Management: Supporting watershed and micro-watershed management to enhance water security and reduce erosion.
🏛️ Institutional Strengthening: Building strong governance frameworks and technical capacity within state and local institutions for long-term environmental management.
